11-year-old dog with same ‘family’ dumped at shelter when child jumped on pet while sleeping

Almost all of his 11 years, Chino lived with his “family” – that is until they surrendered him to the East Valley Animal Shelter in Van Nuys, California on June 2, 2021.

So why would a family dump their senior pup? A shelter volunteer posted the following explanation:

“‘Dog was sleeping and owner’s son [3-years-old] was running and playing around the dog and jumped on the dog.’ Yes, CHINO, allegedly, bit the child and grandmother when she tried to shield the child, and, while no one would want anyone to be harmed, the child JUMPED ON THE DOG! How would any animal, or human for that matter, react if jumped on or pushed or hit?”

When Chino arrived at the shelter, he was immediately quarantined as per law, but when his time was up, the volunteer spent time with the “gentle senior” who appeared confused as to why he was confined to a cage after having been in a home for 11 years. The question remains –

“Where were the adults when the toddler JUMPED ON CHINO?”

As a consequence of the action of humans, Chino will be punished. He is “rescue only” because of the circumstances, and sharing for an approved rescue organization will likely e the only way to save this dog’s life. Please share his plight and help find him a loving home where he can live out his senior years in peace. All of us need to be the voices for those who can’t speak.

  1. I hope someone local can open their heart and home for this precious treasure.

Where were the adults when this toddler was jumping onto the dog? We never allowed small children to be anywhere near our dogs unless they were supervised by us (& then we would intervene if the child started to do something that was not “ok”)…….

The fault is not the dog, but the lack of proper supervision of the toddler…….

  2. These stories make me sick! They allow the kid to run amok and then blame the dog when the kid jumps on him! Not allowing him to go to someone other than a “rescue” is ridiculous also, the dog is obviously gentle and would fit in any home without a unruly child!
