People participating in “Operation Spring Clean” in Roberson County, North Carolina, made a grim discovery during the weekend event. Sheriff Burnis Wilkins created a Facebook post with photos of the clean-up effort, and commented about finding the deceased dogs, writing:

Sadly and under current investigation was the discovery of 10 dogs (mostly but not all pit-bulls) wrapped in trash bags and thrown alongside a ditch bank. The black bags pictured in the water is them but we won’t display the dogs themselves.

First responders and volunteers collected a total of 1545 bags of trash, as well as a brand new flat screen T.V., and over 200 tires, during the clean-up event.

There is no further information provided about the status of the animal cruelty investigation.
