K9 found dead in kennel

Young police K9 found dead in kennel run

On Monday morning, a young police K9, with the Tupelo (MS) Police Department, was found dead in his kennel run. As reported by the Daily Journal, the two-year-old Belgian Malinois, named Floyd, was discovered in a kennel area at his handler’s home.

According to the police department, it is unclear what caused the young dog to die. The department stated:

We are working with Floyd’s veterinarian in an effort to determine cause of death. While it is unknown if heat played a part in Floyd’s passing we do want to take this opportunity to remind everyone to pay close attention to their outside pets during these hot summer months.

After multiple people inquired about the conditions at the kennel, the police department stated:

Several questions have been asked about Floyd’s enclosure. Floyd was housed in a 10 x 10 foot kennel (pen) with a concrete floor and a dog house in the shady part of his handlers yard.

Adding;

“Floyd’s handler and his family are devastated at the loss of not only a partner but a family friend. Our prayers are with them as they deal with this tragedy.”
