Woman’s stolen dog found and returned after police view video of abuse

Police in Slidell, Louisiana, were able to find and return a woman’s stolen dog after viewing video footage showing abuse. As reported by WBRZ News, the Doberman pinscher was stolen from Rachelle Fassy, who posted a damning Ring video to Facebook.

In the video, a man can be seen with the dog, named Ruby Jean – according to Fassy, the man, identified as her ex-boyfriend, Shane Mitchell, stole the dog to get back at her. The Ring video shows Mitchell yanking Ruby Jean into the air, with the dog struggling as if she is being choked.

On Tuesday morning, the Slidell Police Department acknowledged that the abuse case was being investigated, writing:

Slidell Police is very well aware of the Ring doorbell video involving a man abusing a dog. This situation is not being taken lightly. The report was filed yesterday and is ACTIVELY being investigated.

Fassy posted a video hours later with Ruby safely in her possession, writing words of thanks to the police and the people who stepped up to help make their reunion possible:

I want to personally thank each and everyone of y’all who made every attempt to lead me to my ruby ! I esp want to give my biggest thank you to the Slidell police department for retrieving my dog and everyone that helped bring her back in the matter! Praying and having faith came a long way! Ruby is with me!

As reported by WAFB News, Mitchell was arrested.
