Woman lost temper with dog and abused it by swinging it into a wall

A Gwinnett County, Georgia woman was arrested on Tuesday evening after a disturbing video of her abusing her 18-month-old dog on the balcony of her apartment was shared with police. Ashten Nicole Goeckel, 30, faces animal cruelty charges after she told police she lost her temper with her dog.

According to the Duluth Police Department stated a witness who works for the woman’s apartment complex videoed the actions and notified authorities.

On Tuesday, August 11, the Duluth Police Department was made aware of this recorded video of a female abusing her dog. The same day of the abuse, officers with our agency were able to identify and arrested the suspect without incident.

Gwinnett Animal Shelter/Control took the dog into protective custody and will maintain there until the case is heard. At that point, a judge may release the dog to a verified rescue group.

The video shows Goeckel yelling at the young dog and then can be seen hitting her with her shoe as the woman looks around from the balcony. She then picks the dog up by her neck and repeatedly slams the pup into the wall before leaving the defenseless animal lying on the ground.

The AJC reports the dog did not suffer any severe injuries and is in the care of the Gwinnett County Animal Control where she may be released to an approved rescue organization.

Goeckel was transported to jail and released after posting a $1,300 bond.
