In East Haddam, Connecticut, a woman fought off a coyote twice using a pitchfork and with the help of her loyal donkey. The woman is receiving treatment for possible exposure to rabies as a precaution because she came in contact with the animal’s saliva.

According to the Hartford Courant, the State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Wildlife Division received the report of the incident on October 22. On the first attack, the coyote bit the woman’s boot which did not go through to her foot and was then kicked by the donkey. Hours later, the same coyote attacked the woman again in her car.

Area residents had made complaints about an aggressive coyote. After the second attack on the woman, a neighbor shot and killed the animal, however an animal control officer disposed of the animal’s body before any testing for rabies could have been done.

  1. Poor coyote. Did they absolutely have to kill the coyote? Could they not have just darted the coyote and moved them to a better, safer place?
