On Monday, a woman walking in North Fort Myers, Florida, made a heartbreaking discovery along NE 24th Avenue near Garden Boulevard. As reported by WINK News, Tammie Read was searching for a missing dog when she discovered an elderly dog, with its snout taped shut, alongside the road.
The deceased dog is believed to be 17 years of age, and Read said that the dog “clearly suffered.” She tells the news agency:
What would possess you to find some animal and say, ‘Well, I think I’m going to duct tape its mouth shut?
Read contacted animal control to report the cruelty case and she is hopeful that the person(s) responsible will be found and punished. She said:
“Yes, I hope they find them. Are you kidding me? I mean it could be your animal or my animal next. If they could do that to an animal, they could do it to a child. They could do it to anybody.”
