A 68-year-old New York woman has been arrested and charged following a grim discovery at her Suffolk County home. A news release from the Suffolk County SPCA identifies Donna Hulse, of 17 Jade Street Oakdale, as the person responsible for the death of multiple dogs and neglect of a cat and four dogs who were living in squalor.
Roy Gross, Chief of the SPCA, stated that neighbors alerted the authorities to the dismal conditions at Hulse’s home. Before last Wednesday, Hulse had refused to let the authorities into her home. The release states:
That changed on Wednesday when Ms. Hulse allowed the SPCA Detectives and the Police to enter and inspect her residence. What they found, Gross said, were 4 live dogs, 1 live cat, and 4 dead dogs. The animals were living in deplorable conditions. The Town of Islip Fire Marshal posted the residence as uninhabitable.
Hulse is facing five counts of animal cruelty. The surviving animals were seized from her residence and taken to the Town of Islip Animal Shelter for evaluation and care. Hulse will be arraigned on October 6.
