In Sacramento, California, a woman was arrested on Friday for allegedly setting her dog on fire according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
In a news release, the disturbing incident occurred earlier this month when Petra Gabriel and her sister separated the two family dogs Titan and Doody after the two had been involved in a scuffle. The dogs were quickly separated.
Petra then sprayed an accelerant on Doody and ignited him. The dog, a brindle pitbull was taken to the Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation and is being treated. Authorities say he may lose both eyes and an ear as a result of the burns.
A $500,000 arrest warrant for animal cruelty and arson was obtained, and detectives arrested Petra.
“We all love our fur babies and wish Doody well in his recovery,” their Facebook post stated.
Doody is now in the care of T.E.A.M. (Teaching Everyone Animals Matter)
“TEAM is asking for your help to fund the medical needs of a precious animal. Phoenix is the victim of heinous, intentional cruelty inflicted by human hands. Despite his horrific burn wounds, his spirit remains sweet and determined to live, and our vet staff believes he has a chance.”
An update on Phoenix:
“Phoenix remains positive and cheerful with his treaters. He went for a walk today and we will post new photos soon. His eyelids are still of great concern as they were, like much of his body, horrifically burned and may require reconstructive surgery.
Any funds received in excess of those needed for Phoenix’s care will directly support other shelter animals in need.”
