Woman arrested after police investigate calls about crying dog and find her sealed in filthy dog house

A 60-year-old woman in Glen Cove, New York, was arrested on November 13 after police arrived to her residence to investigate a call about a barking and crying dog, and discovered an ailing, senior dog inside of a filthy, sealed dog house. As reported by the Glen Cove Record Pilot, the responding authorities heard the dog barking and crying, and eventually found a disoriented, dirty, and ailing dog locked behind plywood inside of a dog house at the home of Delia Banos.

The dog, named Lassie, was rescued from the horrific situation and taken to the local animal shelter to be evaluated by a veterinarian. An exam revealed that she was suffering from overgrown hair and nails, severe dental disease, four mammary tumors, and a corneal eye ulcer, reports the Glen Cove Patch.

Lassie is receiving care at the Glen Cove Animal Shelter; Banos is charged with animal cruelty.
