A Johnston County family is mourning the death of their Juliana pet pig after their neighbor allegedly tied a rope around the pig’s legs, dragged him by a golf cart to the back of her property and shot the animal in the head repeated times. Teresa Ann Riddle has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
According to MyDailyRecord, the pet pig, named Wilbur had just been adopted by the family a few weeks earlier; on March 24, Wilbur disappeared. His lifeless body was found along the property line that same afternoon.
Riddle allegedly told deputies from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, a number of wild pigs had been roaming in the area and that Wilbur had been on her property when she killed him. She stated she had no idea Wilbur had been a family pet.
Riddle was arrested on April 2 and charged with felony animal cruelty. Her bond was set at $5,000.
Rest in peace Wilbur.
