A family in Washington state recently discovered that their missing cat, Panda, was far, far from home in Alaska. As reported by Kiro 7 News, the mischievous cat apparently made his way from Rochester, Washington, to Kenai, Alaska, after hopping into a shipping container on a barge.

Panda managed to survive nine days without food and water before being discovered by a Home Depot employee in Kenai. With the help of social media posts, Panda’s owners, Josh and Christina Clevenger, learned that their missing cat was alive and far from home.

Josh said:

It’s mind blowing to know he’s 2,500 miles away.

Thanks to the United Angels non-profit group, Panda was able to fly back to his owners. The organization kept Facebook followers updated about the feisty feline’s journey home. Fans enjoyed a play-by-play of Panda’s flight home:

TRACKING PANDA!!
Panda and his people are headed home to Rochester.

Update 10/30, Friday 3:40pm
Panda is expected to land at any time… Flight has a strong tail wind… It will take about an hour after touch down to reunite with Mom and Dad…

Now that Panda is safely back home, his owners have said that he will no longer be granted roaming privileges…and they are pretty sure that he isn’t going to like it. Christina said:

He’s going to be the worse child for the next couple of weeks, getting used to not being able to go outside.

  1. If this is the cat that was found in Kenai in a moving container, my son Liam Poole was the one who found the cat and posted it on a lost pet web sight for your area. He had found the cat and was determend to find the owner because it was wearing a collar and new some one or family would be missing the cat. He had found the cat with some other Home Depot employees and wanted to find the owners. When he went back to work the next day he asked what happened to the cat and he was told that the cat was given away to a lady and she took the cat home. My son told her she needs to get the cat back, because he learned the lady who took the cat, butcould not keep the cat and she to gave it away. But the cat had a collar on so he got on the internet and found the owner and wanted the cat reunited with the rightful owners. He told the lady to bring the cat back and she said she had already found it a home. Liam then told her that is too bad and the cat needs to be brought back because he had located the rightful owner. Im so happy and proud of my son for taking the time and the effort to find the cats owners. I am an animal lover and had 2 dogs taken from me by people and I never did get them back because i did not have pictures of me and my dogs together. I had pics of both my dogs but none with me in the picture. I posted them on Alaskas lost and found web site and was told i will not get the dogs back without a pic of me and the dogs. Even thoe i gave spasific marks and behaviors of the dogs.I was always taking the pic and never got one of me in the pic. It still bothers me to this day that people took there own thoughts and kept the dogs. I still miss my dogs Trooper and Nikki. So I am so thrilled the cat was sent home to be reunited with the people the cat belongs to. I didnt see my sons name mentioned in the add and that kinda bothers me. He did the right thing. If it wernt for Liam the cat would be an Alaskan cat and most likely unhappy and missing its family.

  2. My son Liam Poole works at home depot in Kenai Alaska. He and some other co-workers found the cat in the container. My son went home and looked for an add to see if anyone was missing their pet. It had a collar and he knew it was not a stray. When he went back to work the next day he asked about the found cat and was told it had been taken home by a lady and she could not keep the cat so she to found it a home. He told her he found the owners and the cat had to be brought back so it could be reunited with the cats family. I love all animals and had 2 digs taken from me. I posted them on Alaskas lost and found pets and could not get them back because I did nit have a pic of me and my dogs together, even thoe I gave detail markings and scars. It still bothers me and I still miss my dogs Trooper and Nikki. And the people that knew where they were took it upon them selves to keep my dogs because i did not have a pic of me and my dogs. I am so proud of my son for sticking up for the cat and bringing it to his boss that he had found the owners and the cat was sent home. This does not happen very often because people just dont care. Im so happy Panda made it home where he belongs!
