A viral video posted online on Friday showed the owner of a dog seemingly abusing his very frightened pup for defecating in the house. The disturbing situation took place in Memphis, Tennessee; animal advocates are hoping to rescue the dog named Peanut and make sure he is taken to a safe and loving home.

The video has more than 81,000 views, 2,800 shares and thousands of comments.

In the video, the abuser can be seen and heard berating his dog, Peanut, for having defecated inside the house. There is little doubt the dog was terrified and displayed a weak and submissive posture with his tail tucked tightly between his legs as the man repeatedly pulled him by the collar demanding the dog remain in a seated position. The man continued to scream in the dog’s face, shined a bright light into the dog’s eyes and apparently hit the scared animal with a rolled up newspaper.

The video can be viewed here.

An officer from the Memphis Tennessee Police Department as well as an animal control officer were sent to the home, but nothing has been done. The owner claimed it was all a joke.

“Before this event page was published, calls were made to the Memphis, TN Police Department as well as Memphis Animal Services. The Memphis Police did go out to the house with a Memphis Animal Service officer but, long story short, the police officer found this funny and he voiced that they are not going to do anything about it. Nicole Young, the head of Memphis Animal Services, has said that Memphis Animal Services does not find this funny and that they are making sure that everything can be done legally to get Peanut away from this man.
This case is being worked on, however, please still follow the steps below to voice your concerns for Peanut,” was posted on a Facebook group Justice for Peanut.

The case is currently under investigation. Readers are asked to leave the person’s social media account alone and do not message, insult or threaten him in anyway. Please let the professionals handle the case and help Peanut.

Animal advocates are hoping Peanut will be removed from his current owner and placed in a safe, loving home, and that the alleged abuser will be held accountable as per animal protection laws in the state.
