In Cincinnati, Ohio, a video of a dog holding a placard “Black lives matter” has gone viral. Twitter user Nick Swartsell tweeted the photo and video of the dog named Buddy holding the sign in his mouth during an early evening protest.

“First time I’ve seen this,” Nick tweeted while sharing the video which has already garnered more than 9 million views.

And as if expected, a debate on social media followed, with some animal advocates criticizing the dog’s owner, Sarah Emrick for bringing the dog to the peaceful protest.

“This is my dog. I know him and I know that he could handle this. It was a peaceful protest and no one was hurt,” Sarah tweeted in defense of her decision to bring Buddy with her. “I was aware of my surroundings and was very careful to make sure neither of us got hurt. And I left before the curfew kicked in at 9. He was happy to be there.”

A short time later, Sarah responded again on Twitter trying to allay any fears for her dog’s safety.

“I understand that people don’t think he should’ve been there but I was aware of my surroundings and I would never let him be harmed. Buddy sends his love,” tweeted.

Not only does Buddy share his life with Sarah, he also loves his two cat roommates as well as a glider named Stitch. He loves going with his mom and seems to have a natural love for all humans; setting a good example for everyone no matter how many legs they might have.
