Thousands of pigs suffered an agonizing death when ranchers shut down ventilation in their barns and funneled in steam to essential “roast” them alive. As reported by the Des Moines Register,  pigs at an Iowa Select Farms facility were killed after Midwest processing plants were shuttered because of the pandemic.

The disturbing situation was discovered when Direct Action Everywhere covertly obtained video footage inside of the facility. The animal rights group said that pigs were “shrieking in agony” after the ventilation was shutdown and the temperature climbed to 150 degrees.

The ventilation shutdown is considered to be an acceptable method to cull livestock. Acceptable does not equate to humane. This is the fallout of factory farming and an estimated 600,000 pigs in Iowa are expected to suffer the same fate.

  1. This seems cruel. I don’t care what the “industry paid veterinarian” says. I care what an independent veterinarian says (& the one I spoke with thought this method was cruel)……..
