A viral video of a dog being beaten and dragged in Brevard County, Florida quickly captured the attention of animal advocates on Saturday, who immediately went to work to rescue the abused eight-year-old senior pup. The disturbing footage showed the dog being repeatedly slapped and beaten with her leather leash by a woman – allegedly because she defecated in the house.
The dog, named Mia, was surrendered to Mutty Paws Rescue later in the day with a note written on the back of a receipt. The Brevard County Sherriff’s Department has spoken with all involved and has filed a report to seek justice for Mia.
On Sunday night, Mia had her first real treat when she was given Carvel ice cream; it was gone in 30 seconds according to the rescue organization.
“Nobody came up to pet her as we sat outside. We’d like to think it was because they were social distancing, but Mia was happy so we were happy and that’s all that mattered.”
And now Mia needs a foster home to help her. Sadly she whimpers when she takes a deep breath and her spirit seems broken. She doesn’t want anyone touching her back, however there is no doubt that Mia loves people. On Monday morning she was headed to the veterinary office for a full examination including a blood panel workup and x-rays.
“If you could see Mia in person, you’d see that she is more of a mess than pictures show…”
