Two days before Valentine’s, a disturbing discovery was made on a dead end street in Aiea, Hawaii. As reported by KHON 2 News, two dogs had been abandoned, without food or water, in a rusty bird cage
The dogs were taken in by the Hawaiian Humane Society – according to the animal welfare agency, one of the dogs had a choke collar around her neck that was “so tight it had to be cut off.” One of the dogs is a badly neglected and injured senior who has been dubbed Professor. The other dog is a four-year-old female.
On February 14, the shelter updated Facebook followers about the abandoned dogs:
We want to share a quick update about the health status of the two dogs that were found in the bird cage in Aiea.
The 10 year old male dog who we have named “The Professor” was abandoned in really bad condition. He appears to have a broken jaw, has a large growth in his mouth as well as severe dental disease. He was severely neglected and has long untrimmed nails. Our veterinary services team has established an initial plan for his care, and will do additional diagnostic work to have a better understanding of his overall health. We’ll keep you posted on his condition and may be reaching out to the community if he requires special fostering or care.
