The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office updated animal advocates on Tuesday afternoon stating the man seen on video surveillance on a trail has been identified and charged with animal cruelty. The man had abandoned the pup on the road late last week and drove away.

The frightened pooch waited nine hours before rescuers from the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals saved him; they named the friendly pooch Rocket.

“Thanks to tips from the community and our partners at Oklahoma Alliance for Animals,
today our deputies were able to identify and cite the individual who was caught on camera, abandoning his dog near 66th Street North and Mingo.”

Deputies have not released the name of the suspect, but stated the man has been charged with abandoning a dog.

And of course as to Rocket, he’s one very special dog. An update from the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals:

We appreciate the outpouring of love and support for Rocket! ❤️ As you can see, Rocket is safe, happy, and pretty smitten with his rescuer Tina.
