In Henry County, Tennessee, authorities discovered a toddler living in a dog kennel during an animal rescue mission. Henry County Sheriff’s deputies raided a single-wide mobile home on Thursday and found the one-and-a-half-year-old boy in a 4×4 cage in the living room.

Three suspects have been identified as T.J. Brown, 46, Heather Scarbrough, 42, and Charles Brown, 82. All have been charged with aggravated child abuse, aggravated animal cruelty, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, manufacturing marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and cruelty to animals.

According to Fox News, the child had a few toys, but no blankets. Propped up next to the cage were buckets filled with mice and within three feet of the mice, a 10-foot boa constrictor was living.

The child appeared uninjured, but hungry and has been taken into custody by the Department of Children’s Services.

Sheriff Monty Belew stated there were 15 to 20 dogs in the home with feces piled on the floor. Parts of the home had no flooring and the kitchen area was described as “unlivable.” Cockroaches and maggots were found throughout the home.

The Animal Rescue Corps responded to the location and helped to care for and remove the animals. Some of the animals found had already died. The following animals were rescued:

  • 86 chickens and roosters
  • 56 dogs
  • 10 rabbits
  • 3 cats
  • 8 snakes
  • 1 pheasant
  • 531 mice, rats and hamsters
  • 1 gecko
  • 3 sugar gliders

Each of the suspects are being held in jail pending a $300,000 bond.
