Thousands of cattle are presumed dead after the cargo ship they were on sank off the coast of Japan. According to multiple sources, earlier this week, the ship lost an engine and then capsized in rough seas generated by Typhoon Maysak.

Reports state that approximately 6000 cattle were onboard the Gulf Livestock 1. As reported by the Maritime Executive, one crew member was found bobbing in the sea, and he is said to be in good condition. The other 42 crew members are missing and the search, which was initially called off due to poor conditions, resumed on Thursday morning.

The cargo ship, which was based in the United Arab Emirates, was destined for China on what was to be a 17 day journey.
