On Monday afternoon, a critical appeal for help had been sent out from OC Animal Care in Tustin, California. A three-year-old brown and white pup had arrived at the shelter on Sunday as a stray. Her condition appeared grave, however some big-hearted rescuers refused to give up hope.

Shortly after the plea went out on social media along with her photo, it wasn’t long before Kelly Reeves, founder of Paw Prints in the Sand Animal Rescue responded and stepped up to help. She named the sweet dog Victory, and off they went to the emergency veterinarian hospital.

Had Victory’s prognosis been contingent on the love and support she received in one afternoon, this morning the young dog would have been sitting up eagerly eating her breakfast. Tragically that was not to be:

“Very sad news. The ultrasound of her chest and abdomen showed she had advanced liver disease. She’s in complete liver failure, which is why her belly is so full of fluid. She also has advanced abdominal and mammary cancer. Our vet said she’s suffering and has no quality of life…,” the rescue organization posted on Facebook Monday evening.

Kelly returned to the veterinarian hospital and held Victory until she passed reassuring the sweet dog she was loved – even for such a short time.

“We let her know that she had a name Victory and that her life mattered. She didn’t die alone in the shelter…

Words cannot express our gratitude to everyone who immediately jumped in to help. We hope she knows just how many people lived her and were pulling for her.”

Rest in peace Victory.

(Note from Kelly: We understand if you don’t feel comfortable honoring your pledge, or if you have and you’d like a refund. We are so grateful for all the support she received. Any funds will go towards Zyron, the Pittie in Ramona who will likely need eye surgery. We sent an email over to the shelter, but the rescue coordinator is off on Mondays.)
