In a security video, a man was shown stopping his vehicle in the industrial area of LaMirada, taking a small dog out of the back seat in a doggy bag, placing it in the gutter and then shooting the dog twice and left it to die.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the disturbing event occurred on Sunday afternoon.
On Thursday, investigators say a possible suspect is in custody after the dog was shot. The names of the suspects have not been disclosed, but authorities state they were arrested on unrelated charges. The connection to how these people have been tied to the dog’s shooting has not been made clear.
A witness saw a man exit an SUV and place something in a sewer in the 16400 block of Phoebe Avenue on Sunday afternoon. After he heard two shots fired and the white Jeep Grand Cherokee sped away, the witness, Alex Csonka found the dog lying in a doggy bed dead.
“I can’t believe someone would actually do that and not give it to a shelter or put it down,” Csonka told AbcNews.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s Norwalk station at (562) 466-5419. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call (800) 222-8477. PETA has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the identity of the people responsible.
