Wonka is a five-month-old puppy born under a recreational vehicle in Dayton, Texas who has known nothing but pain and misery since birth. ThisIsHouston, a non-profit rescue group, captured the pup, his three siblings, his parents and three other adult dogs last week.
Wonka was born with eight siblings; five of them passed away. He most likely had been hit by a car at some point as he has fractures in both his tibia and his fibula. He couldn’t walk much after that and his health had slowly been deteriorating. Add Sarcoptic and Demodex mange to his list of health issues, and there is one miserable puppy.
Wonka’s health was notably the worst. He also had a hole in his leg filled with maggots. The owner of the vehicle where the dogs lived, stated Wonka would cry out in pain when raindrops fell on his injured leg. He puppy cried out in pain just from being moved onto the gurney while he was in the humane trap when captured.
“Thankfully, we were able to trap him last week and we rushed him to Vergi 24/7. He stayed hospitalized there for 6 days on IV fluids and IV pain meds. He’s just now leaving to head to our surgeon, NVC – Groves , where he’ll have surgery to repair his leg.
Five months old and already so much pain. But, we can fix him. And we’ll give him a forever after…”
This little guy is one of the lucky ones; if only all of the mistreated, neglected and stray dogs could be so fortunate.
