On Sunday, a grievously injured Labrador retriever was found with two gunshot wounds in her head. The dog, who had a microchip revealing that her name was Ruby, was found by people riding ATVs in a remote area of Lehigh Acres, Florida.
Jarrod Salisbury was one of the people who found the injured dog – he describes her pitiful condition to WINK News:
“She was struggling to breathe, panting very heavily. We gave her some water. She drinks as much water as we had. She cleaned out our cooler. We tried to make her as comfortable as possible.”
After calling 911 for help, officers with Lee County Domestic Animal Services responded and the wounded dog was taken to a veterinarian. But the gunshots to Ruby’s face proved to be too severe for her to recover from and she was humanely euthanized.
Reward for information
A $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for this cruelty. If you have information, please contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 477-1000 or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
