On Wednesday, an animal shelter in Virginia posted photos of a stray dog which had been taken in – the malnourished dog, a wire-haired pointer, was picked up as a stray, but had a collar on, indicating that at some point in time, she was someone’s pet. The Danville Area Humane Society outlined the dog’s severe state of emaciation, writing:
Do you know this dog? She was picked up as a stray and brought to us. She is, horrifyingly, a skeleton with skin and fur. She has a collar, so we know she had a home.
Adding:
Frankly, she smells like she has been in a very bad home. She also is very sweet. She’s being transferred to a veterinary clinic now.
The shelter provided an update several hours later, writing:
Her temperature has slightly improved. Her bloodwork did show some concerns and those will be closely monitored. She ate and that is a very good thing. She is being treated for a heavy infestation of internal parasites. She will be in the hospital for several days and that is the best place for her to be! She is receiving a lot of love and attention from all of the clinic staff; she is such a very sweet, humble dog.
The shelter hopes that someone will recognize the dog and reach out to them with information. The shelter wrote:
If you know that she has been neglected in a home, please call us at (434) 799-0843.
The most recent update, provided on Wednesday morning, indicates that the dog is doing well with care.
