A program is being started for the third year running at the Brandywine Valley SPCA. The shelter, serving Pennsylvania and Delaware, is kicking off the Holiday Sleepovers program to help overlooked dogs at the shelter find a home.
The animal welfare agency made the announcement on Tuesday, writing:
Holiday Sleepovers are back! This year we’re focusing on our most overlooked dogs – maybe a little older, maybe needing to be an only pet, or maybe scared in the shelter – all deserving of love over the holidays.
Detailing what is needed to make the program a success:
We’re looking for families to welcome these dogs as fosters from 12/24 to 1/3 to give them a break from the shelter and to capture moments that will help them find forever families. Plus this year we’re partnering with Big Barker, maker of the only dog bed designed specifically to support a big dog’s body. Big Barker is sending each dog home with a Big Barker bed.
Fostering provides many benefits – not only does it free up space at the shelter facility, but it gets dogs out of their kennel runs and into a home setting. People who volunteer to foster are able to observe a dog’s true behavior and it makes finding a new home much easier.
