Dozens of sheep who managed to survive a sinking ship will be spared certain death. The 180 survivors were on a ship carrying more than 14,000 sheep destined for slaughter in Saudi Arabia. The vast majority of the sheep on the Queen Hind drowned when the ship capsized off the coast of Romania.
On January 10, Four Paws International shared the good news:
We have finally gained the custody of the rescued sheep from the capsized ship in Romania 🇷🇴 🐏.With great effort in dangerous and tiresome conditions, our team and partner organisation Letea Wild Horses were able to pull 254 sheep from the wreckage. However, it didn’t stop there – endless negotiations have taken place since in order to gain custody of the sheep, but we have finally received the green light. With the help of you, our generous and determined supports, we have custody of the sheep.
Only 180 of the 254 sheep rescued from the water survived – but those survivors are no longer destined to die at a slaughterhouse. As reported by BBC News, when custody has been fully transferred, the sheep will be turned over to vegan sanctuaries in Romania.
