Disfigured dog Phoenix has passed away
Spread the love

In November 2019, a severely disfigured dog was abandoned in Collinsville, Oklahoma. The dog, dubbed Phoenix, or “Phe,” was rescued and efforts were made to find out what had happened to his beautiful face. It turned out that Phoenix was suffering from a rare auto-immune disease known as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).

Phoenix received extensive veterinary care with the help of Skiatook Paws & Claws Animal Rescue, and a team of specialty veterinarians. But the toll of the disease ultimately took hold and he was released from his failing body this week.

On Monday, the rescue group broke the heartbreaking news to Facebook followers, writing:

Last night, at around 5 pm, we let Phe go.

His exit was peaceful. He was surrounded by people who adored him and his mom and sisters held him close. Phoenix had found his person in Dr. Gena, and she could not have adored him more if she tried. Her heart was his and his heart was hers. All any dog wants is to find their person, and he was one of the lucky ones who did. He held on as long as he could, not for himself, but for her and her girls. He was exhausted, and let them know it was time to go.

Adding words of gratitude for the dog who changed their life:

Phoenix represented everything that is good, and everything that is pure. Phoenix was hope, and most importantly, Phoenix was love. He had been through so so much and never, ever lost his overwhelmingly beautiful spirit. He loved everyone he ever met. His smile, and his heart, will remain ours forever, even if only through memories and photos.

Phoenix was nothing short of incredible. Who knew what a difference a rough, scarred up dog like him could make? We never knew. We still probably don’t know how many lives Phoenix has touched or how big of a difference he has made for others. Like I said, simply incredible.

May we all know the love of a dog like Phoenix. Rest easy sweet boy.

  3. It’s amazing how many of our pets are getting autoimmune diseases and cancer. Ever wonder why? We feed our dogs junk food! The same way humans good diseases because of poor eating, animals go through the same thing! We are doing our pets such an injustice with the junk that we feed them. I have started to make my own dog food which is basically human food but the right stuff, real food. My dad always used to say, what do you think dogs ate before they invented dog food? So true. You can go and Google how to feed your dog the right way with real food. Good luck everybody. Take care of your furry babies.

    • Well… some people do NOT feed their dog junkfood and the dog still gets sick so obiously that is not the cause to many dieseses, my dog Hercules is about 9 years old and he is sick and we don’t feed him junk food and we feed him right.

  4. Phe’s life matterd to many people around the world. He will never leave our hearts for those who love him. This dog was amazing and no one can argue with that. Precious Phe will be in our hearts forever. He meant the world to many people and he will watch over us, help us through hard times, and love and help the people who saved his life and put every muscle and minute in helping him. He will NEVER be forgotten, He inspired us all. “Rest in peace sweet boy”
