A senior dog named Karley is frightened and confused after being surrendered by her owner to the city animal control in Philadelphia. The eight-year-old mixed breed was left at the facility by an owner who said that they didn’t have enough time for her anymore.
Shelter notes for Karley indicate that she is struggling in the shelter environment:
11/23 (Per Staff)– Tried to take Karley out for a meet with a potential adopter. Karley was sitting by the kennel door, and when approached would growl, whale eye, and bark (no lunging, very stiff generally). I tried opening the other side of the kennel and tossing in high value treats (various different types, some coated in peanut butter) to see if she could be coaxed out the other side. Karley would look at the treats, but did not move towards them or me, instead she just stayed sitting where she was and barking. Also tried offering her peanut butter on a popsicle stick through the kennel door, she showed no interest and continued to bark at me unmoving. Ended interaction and explained to adopters that she was too stressed to be safely removed from the kennel at this time.
Owner’s notes:
Obedient, loud, loyal, loving, loves belly rubs, protective. Walks well off the leash, pulls a little on the leash. Very loud and protective. Live with 1 cat. Territorial
