A neglected, senior dog was taken to a Baltimore, Maryland, animal shelter after being found living in a car. What is known of the sad dog’s story has been recounted by a shelter advocate on social media. The person writes:

Lars- 12 years, unaltered, male, 31 lbs
Poor old man, Lars, was brought into BARCS after he was found living in a car alone. While we’re not sure much of his history or why someone would do this to him, we can’t help but try to make the best of however long he may have left.

Adding:

He has the saddest face, and honestly, it’s extremely hard to look at him because our minds just can’t stop wondering, why? Why would someone do it? And how? As a senior boy- and by the looks of it- we can guess he’s probably never had a very good life. And then to top it all off in his old age, he gets abandoned in a car.

Despite being abandoned and neglected, Lars has maintained a gentle and sweet demeanor.

Lars’ maladies include:

Upon examination, our vets noted that Lars has dental disease, entropion of the lower eyelid, as well as a small mass on the lower eyelid. He has infected ears with discharge, a heart murmur, a significant flea infestation, and as a result, flea dermatitis, alopecia, and scabbing all over his body. He also has a dermal mass on his hip and hindlimb ataxia , causing him to mostly slide his legs along when he walks.

And a word about his sweet personality:

Our vets also noted that he was friendly, gentle, and cooperative throughout the exam, despite how extensive it was and the shape that he’s in. A full medical summary can be provided upon request.

The shelter’s stray hold, and a request for help:

Because Lars was found in a car with no owner present, he is on a mandatory stray-hold period until COB 10/21, but we would appreciate having rescue commitment in the meantime. We’ll be honest, we don’t know how much longer Lars has, but we don’t want him to stay at the shelter any longer than necessary. He should be as comfy and as happy as possible, and have the chance to retire, no matter how short it might be.

Please let us know if your organization can help!

Helping Lars

This dog has survived, despite the odds stacked against him. He needs and deserves the very best that life has to offer for what remains of his time.
