In a disturbing case of animal cruelty in Texarkana, Arkansas, a $2,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for drowning five puppies at the Bramble Park pond on Thursday.
According to the Texarkana Gazette, animal control officers believe the puppies were intentionally drowned on Wednesday night. When authorities arrived the next morning, the found the red plastic crate used to kill the puppies.
“We believe they placed the puppies in it, closed the lid, and then held the crate under water until they believe the puppies were drowned, and then drug it back out and then removed the body, and then would go on to the next one,” stated Animal Control Director Kayla Tucker for the Texarkana Animal Control.
The puppies were estimated to be between eight and ten weeks of age and were found in various locations around the lake. The cruelty involved has left the community, officers and animal advocates outraged.
Although the Animal Care and Adoption Center has not been accepting owner surrenders into the shelter because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is not known if that would have prevented the egregious crime. As of Thursday, however the temporary policy has been lifted in hopes of avoiding anything as cruel as this again.
Rest in peace little ones. You never even had a chance to live and be loved.
