Update:

A retired K9 officer, 10 years of age, finds himself in need of a new home after being surrendered to a Miami-Dade, Florida, animal control agency. The German shepherd, named Simon, should be enjoying his retirement years in the company of his person, not searching for a new place to rest his paws.

The Urgent Cats & Dogs of Miami Facebook page writes:

He is an 10 year old male German Shepherd, estimated weight is 70 lbs. He is a loving boy who gets along well with men, women, children and other dogs. He enjoys going for walks & is a retired K9 officer. He is kept mainly indoors, does well in cars and is fully housebroken.

According to shelter notes, Simon was surrendered for “personal reasons.” A German shepherd savvy owner is being sought for this older boy.

Please help Simon find a loving home by sharing his information. Rescues must request a hold on the pet via email to [email protected]

ID#A1445077

Note: All inquiries about this dog must be made to the shelter. The Pet Rescue Report is NOT the point of contact.

  2. This is so sad….. I hope this brave dog gets adopted ASAP into a loving furever family where he will be treated as a beloved family member!!!

  3. HORRIBLE NASTY PIECES OF SHIT!!!! Maybe when they retire they are put in a nursing home!
    Thats not right at all!

    • what . I just put a letter that I wanted him… NOW they want him.. WHY. why did they give him away. and why do they want him now.. I’ll take him and love him.. if you didn’t want him then.. I am sure you don’t want him now.. liars.. give him to me.. poor pup.. he did he’s job.. he is retired.. time to relax and NOT worry.

  4. Simon is a police officer, not just a dog needing rescue. For the love of God, find out what department he came from and notify them. They should be informed that he was taken to a shelter, then reclaimed. This is a police matter, not a rescue.

  5. Si he used the poor baby for years, probably saved his bitch ass life a couple times and that’s it, He’s surrended like a piece of trash? He’s older so he’s not needed anymore? What a piece of shit..

  6. ALL – they were in the deferred dog program. That means when owner brought them in to surrender the shelter asked owner to take them back home for 2 weeks, then bring them back if they still chose to surrender. It gives owner time to look into alternative solutions to whatever the problem is. If and when the owner returns with them they would then be admitted and available to whomever has placed a hold. Owner changed his mine with the ex-K9 and NEVER surrendered him. The other two were rescued.
