A resident is facing charges following the heartbreaking discovery of 220 neglected animals, and multiple deceased animals, inside of a West Seattle, Washington, home. The 220 living animals include:
- 77 rabbits
- 128 guinea pigs
- 7 chickens
- 2 mice
- 7 chinchillas
- 3 dogs
Investigators with the Seattle Animal Shelter have described the situation as the worst cruelty they have seen. Seattle Animal Shelter Director Ann Graves stated:
This is the worst case of animal neglect and cruelty I’ve seen in more than 20 years of doing this work, and it’s quite possibly the worst case our shelter has ever handled.
The owner of the residence was arrested and is facing a class C felony charge which could result in fines and up to five years in prison. The animals were found both inside and outside of the home on Thursday, October 15.
Neighbors of the 54-year-old man have expressed dismay over the horrible discovery. Karla Boyd tells King 5 news:
“They started about 11 and they didn’t stop until six last night. It took a long time for them to get everything out of there. I’m just surprised that there was that amount of animals, and that much death in there too.”
Though the man has been arrested and charged, his name has not yet been released to the public. The surviving animals are being cared for by the Seattle Animal Shelter.
