At the Cats Protection’s Bredhurst Adoption Center in Kent, a six-year-old cat named Dixie weighed in at a portly 24-pounds this week. The animal charity organization is featuring Dixie to warn owners of overfeeding their pets.

According to the BasingStokeGazette, Dixie is twice the weight she should be as recommended by veterinarians. Fortunately, Dixie has people around her that care about her health, and she has since been on a diet and exercise regime to regain her beautiful kitty figure.

The extra weight keeps Dixie from properly cleaning herself and puts her at a high risk for developing arthritis as well as other weight related disorders and diseases.

“We come across obese cats every so often,” stated the adoption manager at Cats Protection, “but Dixie is one of the largest that we’ve seen among the 43,000 cats that Cats Protection rehomes nationally each year.”

Dixie arrived at the rescue along with another cat who incidentally was a normal weight. Why was Dixie so fat? It is suspected this gal might very well have been indulged too often – and yes she is very friendly, loving and affectionate.

Once there is less of Dixie and she is deemed healthy, she will be made available for adoption.
