One dog died and several were hurt when a rescue van, carrying 80 dogs, crashed on Sunday. The accident happened on Interstate 81 in Roanoke County, Virginia, and involved two vehicles, reports WDBJ News.
The Ram utility van, carrying the rescue dogs, crashed when a Honda Odyssey lost control while passing. The accident resulted in injury to the driver of the Ram van, death to one dog, and injuries to multiple other dogs. The driver of the Honda, identified as 32-year-old Pranav Desai, was not injured; he was cited for reckless driving.
The utility van driver has been identified as 31-year-old Leslie Ysuhuaylas of Plano, Texas, reports WFXR News.
After the accident, Hennings recounted what happened in a public Facebook post, writing:
Today, October 11th, we were in a horrific car accident. We were hit on the rear side of our van while transporting rescue dogs from south Texas to the northeast. We skidded and hit a tree that caused us to flip a few times to the side of the road, preventing us from hitting oncoming traffic.
The dogs were headed to a no-kill rescue agency in Pennsylvania.
