The identity of the teenager fatally mauled by a German shepherd in Battle Lake, Minnesota, last week has been released. According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, the 14-year-old is identified as Deon Bush.
Bush’s mother, Jennifer, runs a breeding operation called LakeView Shepherds, reports the Star Tribune.
The boy’s body was found last Thursday in a fenced area near the home – Deon had been missing for three hours before his body was discovered. The dog believed to be responsible was a three-year-old, long-haired shepherd that was purchased from Poland six months prior. Responding officers stated that the dog was “very aggressive” when they arrived – at the request of the family, and out of an abundance of caution for the public, the dog was put down.
Sheriff’s Lt. Keith Van Dyke stated that Bush had “nice” facilities for the dogs – however, there is no record of Bush being licensed as a commercial breeder.
