A pregnant elephant died in a river as she desperately tried to ease the pain after she was fed a pineapple filled with firecrackers that exploded in her mouth. The disturbing torturous act occurred in Kerala, India.

According to Mohan Krishnan’s post on Facebook, the young elephant had wandered into the village in search of food. The person responsible for the evil deed has not been identified.

“She trusted everyone. When the pineapple she ate exploded, she must have been shocked not thinking about herself, but the child she was going to give to in 18 to 20 months,” Krishnan who was part of the rescue team trying to save the elephant wrote.

“She didn’t harm a single human being even when she ran in searing pain in the streets of the village. She didn’t crush a single home. This is why I said, she is full of goodness.”

The injuries to her mouth and the profuse bleeding could be seen; both her mouth and her tongue were badly injured. Tragically she was unable to eat anything because of the severity of her injuries. Most likely she headed to the river to ease the pain and stood in the Velliyar River trying to immerse her mouth and trunk in the water as a way to avoid flies and other insects on her bloodied mouth.

Hoping to save the 15-year-old elephant, rescuers brought two captive elephants to try and lure her out of the river, however she refused to be rescued. Just hours later, standing in the river, she took her last breath, fell over and died.

“But I think she had some sixth sense. Without accepting us from the river, she became a water grave at 4 PM, without accepting us from anything. Everyone was shocked. I thought how quickly the kuṅkikaൾ got to understand the thing. They are getting tears. I felt like tears were falling into the river. Protest of the river in front of human selfish,” wrote Krishnan.

Her body was moved and cremated, but not without people expressing their sorrow – neither she nor her baby will ever have another sunrise, and such cruelty is horrible beyond words.

According to the IndianExpress, Samuel Pachuau, Wildlife Warden, announced a probe is on into the incident which saw the elephant dying under tragic circumstances.

  1. IDIOTS MONSTERS AND MORONS WALK AMONGST US !! SADEST THING I HAVE READ IN A LONG TIME. I HOPE THE TOWN FINDS HIM AND TORTURES HIM .

  2. Find whoever did this and force them to eat something filled with fireworks and let it explode inside them! An eye for an eye justice!

  3. This is beyond sad. Tragic that a gentle giant and her unborn baby are gone forever. Elephants are an endangered species…… humans are not (in fact, we are the opposite: overpopulated in many areas)……..

There are many villages adjacent to and encroaching on national parks and wildlife preserves in India. Often there are clashes between humans and animals over crops……. the animals usually lose out…….

Let’s hope whoever set this horrible trap is caught and severely punished…….
