Poachers have stolen the lives of 16 lions who were slaughtered and dismembered in Rustenburg, South Africa. According to multiple sources, the lions were poisoned and poachers cut off their paws and faces, leaving behind their butchered bodies.
Gert Blom, owner of the Predators Rock Bush Lodge, commented on the horrific act of cruelty:
They had hacked off 32 paws for the claws and eight of their snouts for their teeth after killing them with poisoned chicken which is a really agonising death for the lions.
“It is cruelty that is beyond belief and an absolutely terrible sight to behold when you see magnificent predators lying there covered in flies minus their faces and their paws.”
As reported by the Mirror, two of the slaughtered lionesses were due to give birth – the poachers extinguished the lives of the mothers, and their unborn cubs. The poachers are believed to have been trying to obtain body parts from the lions for “witch doctors.” The criminals used poisoned chicken carcasses to lure kill lions, which were part of a pride of lions at the Predators Rock Bush Lodge, which breeds lions to help improve the numbers of endangered animals in South Africa.
