A 43-year-old man from Piscataquis, Maine was arrested on Thanksgiving Day after allegedly beating and killing his father’s cat with a frying pan. Ryan T. Carleton has been charged with animal cruelty and violation of conditions of release.
According to the Bangor Daily News, Carleton had been released on November 25, on an unsecured bond for the third time in a month. District Court Judge Kevin Stitham ordered there be no contact with his mother or his father. Both parents stated their son should not be released due to his drunken and violent behavior, according to assistant district attorney R. Christopher Almy.
The prosecutor asked the judge to revoke Carleton’s bail on a previous incident pending a hearing on a disorderly conduct charge, a stolen car charge, drinking in violation of bail and driving without a driver’s license. Carlton had been released earlier in the month on a $1,000 unsecured bail as long as he abided by the rules of his release.
A subsequent arrest for drunk and violent behavior following a deputy needing to use a stun gun to subdue Carleton ended in a $5,000 bond and release.
Carleton faces multiple charges including six-years in jail and fines of more than $7,000 if found guilty.
