Phoenix police arrest man accused of abusing 6-month-old puppy

In Phoenix, Arizona, a man identified as Jose Beltran was arrested on Tuesday for abusing a six-month-old puppy. The arrest follows an investigation instituted on August 8 after the Arizona Humane Society and police viewed a disturbing video of the puppy being abused.

“A concerned citizen reported a horrific case of animal cruelty to Arizona Humane Society (AHS) involving this 6 month old puppy. The puppy had been slammed, thrown, kicked, and suffered a fractured rib and a laceration. Phoenix Police Pet Detectives, South Mountain NET officers, and AHS worked together to get this puppy medical treatment and arrest the suspected abuser…”

According to the Phoenix Police Department press release on Facebook, humane officers and police went to Beltran’s home and found the pup with a deep laceration around his neck. When taken to the Arizona Humane Society’s trauma hospital, the puppy was found to have suffered a broken rib and punctured tongue.

Beltran has been charged with animal cruelty and the failure to provide medical treatment.

The puppy is expected to fully recover.
