In Daly City, California, an employee of PetSmart pleaded no contest on Monday to felony animal abuse for an incident last year involving a four-year-old American Eskimo dog found unresponsive in his kennel.

According to the Daily Journal, Marco Ureta, 21, entered the plea on the condition of a sentence not more than a year. He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 1. In addition, Ureta will be barred from owning, residing or caring for any animal for the next ten years.

Ureta had been working at the store when other employees found the dog named Jelly unresponsive. A subsequent investigation, using video footage showed Ureta slam the dog to the concrete floor two hours earlier fracturing the dog’s neck and skull and causing internal injuries.

He remains out of custody on $50,000 bail.

  1. some people are going to say this is a stupid question but I have seen dogs in worse shape survive such injuries. WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE POOR DOG??? I hate stories like this that don’t include the outcome for the animals! Did the dog live??? Are the owners suing? God knows I would.
