A pet owner in southern China continues to face criticism after dying his Chow Chow’s fur to look like a beloved panda bear. A  recent video showed an unidentified dog walker with a black and white dog named Mei Niu (Pretty Girl) through a street in Lechan.

According to Newsflare, the dog, owned by Yang Yan, sparked outrage amid social media with questions over the dog owner’s actions bordered on animal cruelty. Later on, the owner did clarify the dog had been dyed with plant based formula claiming it was not harmful to the dog’s skin or her health.

PETA Asia also weighed in stating:

Dyeing hair may be fashionable, but only for humans who willingly have it done. There are always risks with using dyes on animals, to their fur, skin, nose and eyes. Animals should not be a tool for people to paint.”

  1. If you want to paint your body in your fave sports’ team colors for an important game day, that’s fantastic and entirely your choice…….

If you want to paint your pets’ fur to match your body paint, that’s a very different matter. The cat or dog did not choose to paint their fur in team colors. Painting your pets IMHO is abusive. They might ingest the paint and get sick or die. Too many potentially bad outcomes….. Giving them a toy in team colors is a safer, better choice!!!
