Social media users are outraged after a video went viral showing a teenager repeatedly punching an injured kangaroo in the face in the Australia NSW town of Culcairn. The video appeared on Snapchat Monday and has since prompted an investigation from the RSPCA.
According to Yahoo News Australia, a young man can be seen repeatedly punching the kangaroo in the face while an accomplice laughs in the background. A woman, obviously filming the sick ordeal, can be heard saying “definitely not f***ing joking.” The video then showed the young man smashing the kangaroo in the face. The animal seems to be holding up his paw to resist the endless blows, but is too weak. Hysterical laughter could be heard in the background.
On a Facebook post, the two people involved in the abhorrent act were identified as two teens from New South Wales. They had supposedly hit the kangaroo with their vehicle, broke its back and then proceeded to torture the suffering animal.
NSW Police spokesperson are aware of the video and the “possible acts of animal cruelty”; an investigation has been launched.
“Police will not tolerate violence against animals in any capacity,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
