A jury has found an Ohio man guilty of cruelty to companion animals. As reported by Cleveland 19, Kevin James Fishburn was charged after he shot his own dog, a German shepherd, in the face earlier this year.
Fishburn claimed that his dog, Zeus, became aggressive while walking on public hunting grounds on January 14 – he stated that “he feared for his own safety.” Fishburn claims that he believed Zeus was dead and took off his collar and left the body there – but the dog wasn’t dead.
Later the same day, a good Samaritan found the injured dog running near Deuber Avenue SW, in Canton, and took him to the Soehnlen Veterinary Clinic for care.
Fishburn will be sentenced on September 8. Zeus has recovered from his injuries.
