There is still no break in the case of a murdered dog, one year later. Eros, a large brown and white male dog was murdered on July 31, 2019 in Wellington, Colorado, and his family is still living the nightmare.

According to Kera Randles, a resident of Casper, Wyoming, Eros left their home on July 30, 2019 with her husband George Randles on a trip to Wellington, Colorado to visit a friend. While there, George needed to go pick up the friend’s children and there was not enough room for Eros and the kids in the car.  Eros stayed at the friend’s house in the 7000 block of Mount Nimbus and was left alone for about one hour.

Eros was able to escape the residence by pushing down on the lever on the glass door.  When everyone returned home and realized Eros was missing, George and his friends began frantically looking everywhere for the dog. Kera, still at home in Wyoming also helped with the search. She called different agencies and posted all over social media.

Kera’s sister Meghan posted Eros on the Facebook page Lost and Found Pets of Northern Colorado, Wellington, and Fort Collins. What had everyone concerned was, Eros was very wary around people, mainly adults that he did not know.

It was 24-hours later, on July 31, 2019, the Randles’ worst nightmare was realized, Ero’s body was found lying across some nearby railroad tracks. He was decapitated; the cause of death was bludgeoning to the head.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office was contacted, and Deputy Brandon Ritchie was the first person Kera talked to about the case.  A report was taken and assigned case #19-6678. Since Eros’s body was found on the railroad tracks, the Burlington Norther Santa Fe Railroad was also contacted for an investigation. Kera Randles strongly suspects it was a teenager who killed Eros since he was very skittish around adults he did not know.

A tip was called in to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office stating a teen who lived close to the railroad tracks was possibly the guilty party.  Nothing every came from the tip.

Kera and George Randles are devastated at the horrific murder of their precious dog Eros. They had Eros and his sister Lola since they were four weeks old. He was not only a dog, but a close companion who went everywhere with the family.

It is coming up on a year since Eros was killed. Although, the case is still open, not many tips have come in. Kera has lost faith in the sheriff’s office solving the case.  The fact that she lives in Casper, Wyoming, a long way from Wellington, Colorado makes it harder for her to aggressively pursue the case with the sheriff’s office. Kera is also working with Tara Bostik, a licensed Animal Welfare Investigator in the state of Colorado and Ashley L. Raymer, manager of The Animal Debt Project in Wellington, Colorado.

It is a tragic commentary on our society that a dog who goes missing is targeted by someone, who instead of helping the lost dog, uses it to perform their sick, evil acts. Only a severely mentally ill person would commit such a heinous crime. This person is a threat to society and needs to be apprehended.

A vigil is planned for the one-year anniversary of Eros’ death on July 31, 2020. Details still to be determined.

A Gofundme https://www.gofundme.com/f/justice-for-eros-find-his-killer  has been set up by Kristi Cannon. The goal is to raise $2000.00 for a reward to any person or persons who calls in a tip that leads to an arrest.
