Three newborn collie puppies dumped in a plastic bag and left dangling over a barbed wire fence near the crossing of a river were rescued on Wednesday in Donegal, Ireland on Wednesday. The vulnerable little ones were less than ten days of age and were deliberately dumped to be drowned.
According to the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA), Smyth’s Veterinarian Services received a call from a concerned citizen who spotted the plastic bag in an inaccessible place and thought it had been kittens abandoned.
When Alexander Smyth, Director of Veterinary Services arrived, he found the bag hanging off the barbed wire fence and knew if the bag became detached or ripped whatever was inside would have fallen into the fast moving river and drowned. Carefully the bag full of puppies was rescued.
The three black and white collies were treated for hypothermia, hypoglycemia and hunger. The puppies are indeed lucky to be alive and were found by pure luck. They are now receiving around the clock care at the ISPCA Animal Rehabilitation Center.
The organization has issued a plea for information about this cruel and inhumane deed.
