Injured and neglected dogs found in roadway

Earlier this week, injured and neglected dogs and puppies were found in a roadway in Putnam County, Indiana. The situation was shared with followers of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page two days ago:

Last night at approximately 2:40 AM Putnam County Deputy Kyle Gibbons was dispatched to a call of several dogs laying in the roadway. Upon his arrival Deputy Gibbons found 2 adult males and 4 Puppies laying in the middle of the road. The dogs were in bad shape😢😢 They had heavy flea infestation and open injuries all over. The dogs were clearly abandoned and left to fend for themselves. 🥺

The Sheriff’s Office explained that the dogs and puppies were rescued, writing:

Deputy Gibbons immediately contacted his wife Erin Gibbons who is the program coordinator for the Humane Society. Erin showed up on scene to assess their injuries and provide immediate care. With the help of her husband and Animal Control Deputy Rodney Cline, all 6 dogs were loaded up and transported to the Animal Shelter. They are currently receiving treatment for the flea infestation as well as the open wounds.

With some TLC, the dogs and puppies are finally recuperating from neglect. The authorities write:

“Kindness Matters”

Official update from the Humane Society:

All dogs are doing well and enjoying some much needed rest, medical attention, head scratches and belly rubs.
Both adults are unfortunately heartworm positive and have severe flea attributed dermatitis.
The puppies wounds are caused by mange and with treatment and some good grooming all four will recover fully. Erin bathed them all today and you can tell they’re feeling a little better already.
At this time we are not allowing visitors to meet them until they have had more time to rest and heal.
All things considered, they’re in good spirits.
The Humane Society of Putnam County is blown away by the love and concern from everyone and wants to extend a very heartfelt thank you to all.
