Mountain lion killed horse grazing in Idaho pasture

In Hailey, Idaho, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game officers confirmed a mountain lion attacked and killed a horse on Sunday while the mare grazed in the pasture.

According to the Idaho News, the horse had been pastured in the Red Elephant Gulch region of Croy Canyon  when the lion attacked and took down the “older mare”.

Traps have been set to find the mountain lion responsible for the attack. There have been a string of attacks reported lately. Typically the cats are rarely seen until winter approaches and natural hunting prey is scarce.

The Fish and Game officers want to remind people to be diligent and keep an eye out for mountain lions. Do not run away if one is spotted; instead yell and try to make yourself look bigger while maintaining eye contact and back away slowly.

Anyone spotting a mountain lion is asked to contact the Fish and Game Magic Valley Regional Office at 208.324.4359.

Having a mountain lion (or other predators) stalk and kill one of my horse babies is a horrible nightmare…… I would be absolutely hysterical to lose one of my horse babies…..
