A mother and her son are accused of shooting at a FedEx driver who ran over their dog in Catawba County, North Carolina. According to multiple sources, 51-year-old Sandy Dixon, and her son, 23-year-old Maxwell, were arrested after allegedly chasing after, and shooting at, a FedEx truck that ran over their pet.

WSOCTV News reports that the driver of the delivery truck pulled over to call a supervisor after accidentally running over the Dixon’s dog – he was confronted by the mother/son duo and, feeling threatened, drove away. The driver tells the authorities that the Dixons pursued him and began firing into the back of his delivery truck.

The FedEx driver pulled into the Highway Patrol Station in search of an officer to help – it was there that the authorities arrested the Dixons.

Maxwell Dixon is facing charges for assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, his mother is charged with aiding and abetting assault with a deadly weapon. The FedEx driver was not injured in the shooting and there is no word on whether the dog lived or died.

  1. Just your average citizen exercising their 2nd amendment right to bear arms! The dog most likely was run over by accident and why didn’t the owners have the dog contained in the first place. The driver obviously was taking responsibility pulling over to call someone and they start shooting at him. I hope they throw the book at these gun happy mother and son and I pray the dog was alright.

    • You said what I was thinking!!! Our furbabies are always either indoors with us or in their “potty pen” on the patio or on leads with us for walks outdoors. We do NOT allow them to “run at large” (& neither do most of our neighbors with their furbabies)……

I can completely understand being upset over a furbaby being hurt or killed in a traffic incident, but shooting at someone is NOT the most effective way to deal with this situation……

People should remember some guidelines for pet safety (& awful incidents like this won’t happen):
      1) pets should NOT be out “at large”, unsupervised
      2) pets should be in a fenced area or a pen for THEIR safety so they can enjoy the outdoors safely
      3) pets should be on leads for walks outdoors so they are under the control of their family
      4) pets should be able to enjoy the dog parks a) in the size appropriate area & b) always supervised by their family
