A yellow Labrador retriever in North Charleston, South Carolina, missing for two weeks after her owner’s truck was stolen, has been found dead.

According to the Facebook group, Find Bella of Charleston SC, Bella had been the subject of a search since December 22 when her owner’s truck was stolen from the Lowe’s parking lot on Northwoods Boulevard. Bella had been inside of Ben Brengle’s Chevrolet Silverado; he had hurried into the store for less than five minutes, when a thief made off with the truck and Bella.

Video footage showed the dog jumping from the back window as the truck was being stolen. More than 4,000 followers were hoping Bella would be found safe. Volunteers from other states came into town to help find the dog.

Brengle had offered a $10,000 reward for the dog’s safe return.

Tragically, Bella’s lifeless body was discovered down an embankment on the eastbound side of the 52 Connector at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

On Thursday, Brengle’s truck was found; the driver Richard Rawlings, Jr. has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. Bail was set at $50,000, and he was ordered not to have any contact with Brengle. No other charges have been made at this time.

Rest in peace Bella.

  1. How very sad. If the truck was stolen that quickly, the keys must have been left in. This whole thing might have been prevented.
